Munich Reviews

Located in the southern province of Bavaria and just a short distance from the Alps, Munich is one of the world's great cities. In addition to the usual touristy things to see and do, Munich is home to the most famous Oktoberfest celebration and one of the world's top soccer teams--Bayern Munich. In addition, it hosted one of the most famous/infamous Olympic Games ever in 1972 with such memories as the radical (and controversial) architecture of the Olympic Village, Mark Spitz winning seven gold medals, the US basketball team losing to the Russians in the disputed final game and, of course, the Israeli team massacre. It was also the birthplace of National Socialism and Hitler's Beerhall Putsch. But Munich has put its negatives behind it and continues to be an incredible place to visit.

Olympiastadion Munchen

Home of the Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munchen soccer teams, this famous stadium is a great place to see a sporting event. It has now been replaced by the new soccer stadium built for the 2006 World Cup.

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest is a big fair complete with beer tents from all of Bavaria's breweries. In order to be served you have to be seated which is tough because the locals come in big groups and camp out at the tables. The Hofbrau tent is the one tourist friendly place you can go. The Hofbräu-Festzelt is the biggest beer-tent at the Oktoberfest. It is on top the only one with a standing only area just in front of our band-podium for your pleasure. They serve 550.000 Liter HB-Beer, 70.000 1/2 chicken, 5.500 pork roast, 8.500 sausages, 2.800 spareribs and more during the 16 day festivities.

Hofbrau Haus

The Hofbrau Haus is the world famous Munich beer hall located in the central area of the city. Here you can drink steins of beer in a friendly atmosphere.

Kunstpark Ost

Kunstpark Ost is located a few blocks away from the Ostbahnhof station on an old factory ground that now contains more than 30 nightclubs and bars. We went to the Colosseum here to see a concert.
