Sloan's: A Magical Crapping Experience

Your hard working CQ correspondents discovered a little treasure at the east end of Clematis Street in Palm Beach, Florida.

Sloan's is an amazing and fanciful ice cream and sweets store that offers incredible foot-high cakes and more all in a fairy tale setting. Owner Sloan Kamenstein welcomed us into his kingdom to take an in-depth look at his very special throne.

When Sloan was building his kingdom, he created a unique way of generating interest in his business. His toilets have see through walls. That's right, see through. However, there is a catch. When you enter and close the door, as if by magic, the walls and doors close up offering the occupant total privacy.

Sloan explained that he had seen this same type of system used for a conference room in New York and was so taken with it that he wanted to use it for his new business. He found the manufacturer in New York and had them specially install the system in Sloan's for both the mens and women's restrooms.

How does it work? Well, it uses electricity to charge the particles in the glass to go from clear to opaque. Closing the door and turning the handle completes the circuit. Some people get a big surprise when they forget to turn the handle. Many CQ readers even go specifically to watch the free shows. Sloan insists that they have safety features and back up systems to prevent accidental peep shows during power failures.

Sloan had many interesting stories to tell about his customers reactions to the restrooms, including finding many amorous couples unable to resist the urge to, well, couple.

But the fun doesn't stop at the walls. Sloan has spared no expense at carrying his fairy tale theme into his bathrooms with beautiful tile work, spectacular blown glass sinks, and wall decorations that would make the seven dwarves envious.
